Dag lieve lezers! Het is alweer veel te lang geleden sinds ik nog een review heb geplaatst. Om het een beetje goed te maken, plaats ik niet één, niet twee, maar maar liefst 3 recensies!

Een tijdje geleden heb ik een schrijfster ontmoet onder de naam S.J. Paul, via een facebook-groep. Ze postte een bericht dat ze binnenkort een boek zou uitbrengen, en dat ze daarom even wat promotie wou maken. Daarop heb ik gereageerd dat ik deze blog begonnen was, en dat ik graag las en zonder twijfel haar boek zou reviewen.

Van het één kwam het ander, en vorige week kreeg ik haar boek toegestuurd om te lezen en te reviewen.

Het boek “Het Eiland” gaat over de jonge Stef Peeters, die wakker wordt op een eiland, maar niet meer weet hoe hij er terecht is gekomen. Het enige wat hij zich nog herinnert, is dat hij thuis in bed lag te slapen. Wanhopig gaat hij op zoek naar mensen, die hem van het eiland kunnen af helpen. Al snel vindt hij een groep jongeren, die er blijkbaar al een hele tijd leven, en alles goed vinden zoals het is. Stef probeert te vluchten van het eiland, maar wordt alleen maar tegenwerkt door het Eiland. Hij probeert de groep jongeren te overtuigen van het gevaar dat er voor hen dreigt, maar hij wordt niet au serieux genomen door de groep. Wat kan hij in godsnaam doen om én van het eiland af te geraken, én de groep ervan te overtuigen dat ze in gevaar zijn?

Dit boek is het eerste in een reeks van 4. Normaal gezien loop ik niet zo hoog op met Vlaamse auteurs, omdat het vaak thrillers zijn, het verhaal is voorspelbaar, ze durven niet out of the box te denken.

Toen ik op de website van S.J. Paul de beschrijving las, was mijn interesse meteen gewekt. En toen ik het boek las, heeft S.J. Paul mij dan ook zéér aangenaam verrast! Dit verhaal is ten eerste voor Young Adult, het is fantasy, out of the box, en niets, maar dan ook niets, is wat het lijkt. Net als je denkt te weten hoe het verhaal in elkaar zit, komt S.J. Paul met een nieuwe plottwist, die je hele gedachtegang doet veranderen. Het is eens iets compleet anders, en ik ben er dan ook van overtuigd dat dit boek en deze reeks een succes zullen worden.

Het boek gaat en leest vlot. Voor je het weet, heb je al tientallen pagina’s gelezen. Je wordt echt naar een andere wereld gevoerd en verliest de tijd uit het oog, zo spannend is het. Je wilt altijd maar verderlezen. Onnodig te zeggen dat het boek mij dus zeker kon bekoren.

Als je bovendien houdt van de tv-serie Lost, dan kan je met dit boek zeker je hart ophalen, want het is hetzelfde genre.

Het enige minpunt vind ik dat ik veel te lang moet wachten op het vervolg. Ik stel dus voor dat we allemaal het boek lezen, en vervolgens de auteur bestoken om het volgende deel zo snel mogelijk uit te brengen! :p
